We’re now taking requests

So, it’s finally time to start working on the most important preparation for the half-marathon: the race playlist. This list is almost as vital as those 10-mile runs and strength-training classes I’ve been dragging myself to all these months.

Any suggestions? I will entertain all ideas except music involving: Don Henley, Live, Smashing Pumpkins (yeah, yeah … all your rage, rat in a cage … SHUT UP), The Moody Blues and, of course, Creed.

Our lines are open.

    Good luck! Pullin’ for ya!

  6. So personal! Isn’t this a little like asking what kind of underwear you should wear?

For my little 30 minute work outs, I like an arc. I’ve been putting this song near the end. It’s different, may not work for you. I like that it doesn’t have lyrics to get in my head and I find it energizing. Your mileage may vary.

    Heke — tky

  7. Lots of great suggestions so far! Almost anything RCHP (esp. “I like dirt”), Foo Fighters (“Learn to Fly”) and The Police (“Demolition Man” or “Synchronicity II”). And Counting Crows – A Murder of One and Tom Petty – Woman in Love always get me pumped! Stick to your wheelhouse and what’s worked in the past (probably best to dump all songs from Sunday’s playlist). And how awesome would it be if you can time it to where you are crossing the finish line listening to Bob!!! Happy mixing!

  8. janet hutchins

You know me Aerosmith all the way…baby!!!!!

  9. I don’t know about a music list, but I surely see a book in your blog.

  10. I’m running the marathon and I asked my teenage daughter to change up my little shuffle for my last long run (20 miler). I’ve never laughed harder while running. My only request was keep it clean. Selections varied from Jack Johnson to Beyonce, All the single ladies..oh oh oh…fun song. You have some great suggestions to choose from! Good Luck!

  11. Ok – understanding you’re not a country fan (yet!), i won’t go overboard, but trust me on a few of these:

    Mr. Goodtime – Colt Ford
I Can Sleep When I’m Dead – Jason Michael Carroll
    Kerosene – Miranda Lambert

They always get me pumped up – I also think – from the non-Country Genre – Born to Run has to make the list and i saw a Paul Simon recommendation, but i would lean more towards something from the Graceland album – Boy in the Bubble, maybe?

I also hope you kept It’s Raining Men on the list – i had a BLAST with that one on the treadmill the other day – almost fell off!

GREAT JOB so far!! And i fully agree with the playlist being the most important prep step…

  12. Oh so many, and I know we’ve discussed this before. But I’ll start with Arcade Fire’s “Keep the Car Running.” Also, Tom Petty’s “Makin’ Some Noise.”

  13. Might I suggest “Middle Aged Guy Panting?”
Oh, I am sorry, that is what I listen to and I don’t use headphones.
When I did use an iPod I chose heavy metal because it was always fast as motivation and I couldn’t understand a word so it was not distracting. I think if I had tunes now I would probably go with Trance for the same reason but there is a bit more interest and variety in the thumping.
“It’s Raining Men” is good, but again that may just be the sweat from the aforementioned middle aged man running just in front of you and fading fast.
